If you have ever experienced a tornado or a blizzard...been without power or gotten stuck in a snow drift....Here are the ingredients to pack an emergency survival kit that could save your life

CAR ( or household) EMERGENCY PACK:

flashlight, heavy duty spotlight type with handle so you can swing it

candles, in non tip containers, enough for 3-4 days

first aid kit, complete with large dressing for wounds down to the samllest bandaid, make sure this first aid kit contains any anti allergic medication that might be necessary for your family members (complete list of necessities in left column))

two or more blankets

one complete extra outfit for each member of the family, keep these packed including outdoor hats, gloves and extra socks, in their own ziploc bags

extra "rations:" bottled water,(two liters for each family member for 2 days) health bars or bags of trail mix , enough for 2 days for each family member

roadside flares and emergency cone markers(2)

one or two large garbage bags (can be used to seal out cold or damp weather when used as tarps or cover-ups)

mirror (can be used as "flasher" to signal for help

sunglasses

several cotton balls soaked in vaseline petroleum jelly and sealed in plastic bag (for use as an emergency "fire starter" fuel) along with a packet of waterproof matches

battery operated radio

cell phone (and keep this charged up!)

THE ABOVE are just minimum necessities, take an hour or two to get at least this much packed and squirreled away, one in the car and one in the house...I'm sure you can think of more "ingredients" as you go.
